Getting ready to move home

by | May 23, 2013 | Moving and Storage

Anyone who lives in a house will be, at some point, out looking for a new place. This can happen for a variety of reasons and while some people only have to do this a couple of times their entire lives, others will be moving around constantly. These people may need to move due to a change in job, financial circumstance or simply a desire for a change of scenery.

Of course there are countless reasons to embark on a move but the undertaking itself is one of the most stressful you will ever experience. Organising large amounts of stuff you own to be taken to another place is not easy, especially if you’ve accumulated a large amount of possessions. That’s where a good removals company comes into play. These people, such as those offering removals in Leicester and elsewhere, can handle all the laborious tasks for you and can make moving a pleasure.

One month before the move

Some people might be surprised that they need to make moving preparations somewhere between four-six weeks in advance, but this is well advised. Preparing this early is the best thing you can do to ensure there are no surprises along the way. However, there’s only so much you need to do a month out from the actual move.

The first thing would be to decide on a moving date. Once this is ascertained, you have something to work towards. Then you need to call a removals company, such as a firm offering office removals in Leicester if that’s where you live, and book a date with them. They will give you advice as to what you need to do before then. Also, at this stage, have a good look through the entire contents of your house, garage and shed, and decide on what you intend to take with you. This will give you an idea of how much packing needs to be done beforehand.

One week before the move

The final week before the move is when it is advised to start packing. You will have a good idea of how many boxes you’ll need due to the preparation you’ve done beforehand. By this stage, you will have told all utility companies, banks and local authorities about your move and have them ship mail to your new address.

Once that is taken care of, you need to begin packing everything, setting aside bedding and towels and other material you’ll need immediately when you move. This will make the transition smoother when you get to your new place. Also have a plan of where everything goes in your new place and give this to the removals company. This is so they know where to put everything when they get to their destination.
