Considerations for Illinois CDL Training Schools

Driving is a pleasure and a privilege. For some of us there is nothing better than hitting the open road and just driving into the sunset. For these people, getting a CDL license could be their dream come true. Image being able to drive for a living!

A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) allows a person to drive larger vehicles. These can range from school buses to large tractor trailers and everything in between. The CDL is a class A license, and you can obtain certain endorsements that allow you to drive or transport different things.

When looking into getting your CDL from one of many Illinois CDL Training Schools, you must be aware of the requirements. To successfully get your CDL you must be at least 18 years old. If you wish to be able to drive across state lines you must be at least 21 years old. When driving a vehicle that requires a CDL you must carry a medical examiner’s certificate showing that you are of good health and fit to drive the vehicle. You will need to pay a fee of $60.00 if you don’t have a driver’s license in the state of IL and a $50.00 fee if you do. When you are ready to get your CDL you will need to take two separate tests. You will take a written computerized test that you may take up to three times. If you don’t pass you will need to wait at least 30 days before trying again. You will also have to take a practical exam in a truck to show that you can drive it properly.

When you obtain your CDL from Illinois CDL Training Schools you may want to consider getting one of several special endorsements available. These endorsements will make you more valuable in the job market. The more endorsements you have the better your chance of finding jobs that you want. The endorsements are: Hazardous Materials, Tank Vehicles, Passenger, School Bus, and Double/Triple. Each of these endorsements has their own requirements that you will need to meet.
