Dermatologist Help To Improve Your Acne

If you or someone you know has ever suffered from acne and or acne scars, you know all too well just how embarrassing it can become.  I’m not talking about the occasional pimple that many teenagers will suffer at some point, I am talking about cystic acne that does not respond well to any of those over the counter medications.  If you are one of those suffers, read on to see just how a dermatologist can benefit you.

Many teenagers have what is called cystic acne and many adults have what is called adult onset acne which is also cystic in nature.  These bumps are more like lumps and can be quite painful.  There is no white head to be popped or mashed with cystic acne.  Actually the more you mash the cysts, the more painful and ugly they become.  Topical medications that are found over the counter do nothing to rid you of these painful lumps.  Since they are lumps and not bumps, the skin is not broken and therefore anything topical you put on it just sits there and is unable to penetrate the skin.

Dermatologists can actually give you a shot directly into the cyst that will decrease the size of it dramatically the instant she or he gives you the shot and will make the cyst disappear in a matter of days.  If you do not go see a dermatologist about this type of acne, it can take months for each lump to go away.

Cystic acne can be cause by a number of things such as hormonal imbalances in your body and stress. Stress is one of the leading causes of cystic acne and therefore doing nothing about it is going to cause the problem to get worse.

If you decided to have a dermatologist help you with your cystic acne you will be glad to know that you do not have to get the shots, especially if shots scare you to death.  Your dermatologist can put you on a round of drugs that can help to clear up your problem as well.  Tetracycline is commonly used to help with cystic acne.  If you are willing to try Acutane, it is quite helpful as well for clearing up acne prone skin.  Acutane can cause birth defects, however so if you are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant you will not want to use this drug.  Many dermatologists will start out with a lower dose tetracycline when combating ugly acne.  Be careful though and use caution because if you do not take the tetracycline as instructed you can end up with a horrible stomachache.  Take this drug as your dermatologist recommends and you will be rid of your acne in no time.
