Medium or Heavy Duty Industrial Vacuum Cleaner – Which is Best?

by | Jan 27, 2017 | Machinery and Equipment

Most industrial facilities get dirty quickly. After all, there is a great deal going on and if you manufacture products from raw materials, a lot of dust and debris can accumulate. When you need clean up equipment, should you choose a medium or heavy duty industrial vacuum cleaner? Let’s look closer to see what medium and heavy duty actually means.

Intermittent Vs Continuous Duty

When you check out industrial grade vacuums, you will notice different duty ratings. Some units are made for intermittent duty while others have continuous duty ratings. Intermittent duty means the unit is designed to be run for a period of time and then shut down to cool off. Continuous duty means the motor can run continuously for 24 hours if needed. These two ratings are often compared to medium and heavy duty industrial vacuum cleaner machines.

Single Phase or Three Phase Power

You can choose either single or three phase power. Three phase electricity is commonly used for more powerful motors. The motors are usually rated for continuous duty and they are fully grounded and completely sealed. You can use them for shop duty or for extracting combustible dust (explosion proof units).

Three phase units are larger capacities than standard vacuums and are designed for multiple users. Hoses are longer than normal and are made from strong and very durable materials.

Alternative Power

Not all facilities have access to electricity and you may need something with alternative power. Here are the power options you can find in a high quality heavy duty industrial vacuum cleaner:

 * Pneumatic – built to run on compressed air. You only need to connect an air line to start vacuuming. Because there are no moving parts, these machines are virtually maintenance free.

 * Gasoline
 * Battery power
