There are several different options for various types of metals that can highly effective at preventing rust. One of the most versatile coating options, particularly if anti-corrosion and surface protection of the part or component is a factor, is the use of powder coating.

One of the most common questions asked is if it is possible for powder coated steel to rust. The simple answer is that if the correct type of powder coating is used, and the process is completed correctly, the risk of oxidation is exceedingly low, even with parts and components used in destructive environments and under extreme conditions.

The Options in Powder Coating

OEMs need to determine the specific environmental or working conditions before choosing a powder coating option. Nylon, epoxy, and polyester powder coating options all provide high levels of corrosion resistance, with some offering additional benefits.

Nylon powder coating offers high levels of resistance to surface abrasion and wear and tear, and it is also resistant to chemical damage. Polyester powder coating is also a durable coating and is offered in a wide selection of colors. It is highly durable and can be used on parts or components for indoor or outdoor use. Epoxy is a reliable, low-cost option in powder coating that can be applied as a thin or a thick surface coating for excellent protection from corrosion.
