Cool Mist Fans are Like Outdoor Air Conditioning

Air conditioning is often cited as one of the greatest advancements of technology in human history. It actually made virtually uninhabitable parts of the world comfortable places to live. The problem is that air conditioning really only works indoors. Cool mist fans, however, give a cool feeling very similar to air conditioning, making your patio or outdoor parts of your business more habitable as well.

The Process of Cooling Mist Fans vs. Air Conditioning
A cool mist fan is, in many ways, the exact opposite of an air conditioner. The fan attempts to add cool moisture to the air while the air conditioner removes warm moisture from air. Misting fans blow air in the direction of your choice while adding water vapor through jets places strategically around the fan blades or fan assembly. This process is perfect for outdoor use.

An air conditioner takes warm air from the room or enclosed area that it’s in and blows it across coils filled with refrigerant, cooling the air and converting the refrigerant to a gas. The gas is later compressed back into liquid form in a process that releases warm air outside the system (usually outside the building) and the liquid flows back to start the cycle again. Because this process works best with a clear separation between where the air gets cooled and where the warm air gets dumped, it is most effective for indoor uses.

Misting Fans for the Home
If you own a home with a patio or deck, a cool mist fan might be a good idea for you. Chances are that your outdoor space is often uncomfortable due to heat, but a misting fan can make it quite comfortable, cooling the air in a small area by as much as 20 degrees. These cool mist fans are a much cheaper solution than building an enclosed patio and adding an air conditioner, and they allow you to stay cool while still being outside.

Commercial Uses for Cool Mist Fans
The most common commercial use for a cool mist fan is for a cooling station in a public venue. These are common in zoos, amusement parks and botanic gardens, particularly in warmer climates. Misting fans can also be used in large outdoor work areas or at sporting events (both for the players and the fans).
