Tips on Cleaning a Stainless Steel Gas Grill

by | Sep 22, 2021 | Barbecue & Smoker Accessories

Cleaning your stainless steel gas grill relies on how often you use it and the weather. The harsher the environment, the more cleaning is required. In addition to salty air, chlorine corrodes metals. If you own a pool or live close to the ocean, clean your grill monthly. When not in use, invest in a cover to protect it from the weather.

Cleaning the Inside of the Grill

The first part of cleaning a stainless steel gas grill is the inside of the grill, including the venture tubes, burners, and flame tamers. To find out where each of these parts is located, you must consult your owner’s manual. Not cleaning these components can lead to buildup, which will create issues with cooking.

Before cleaning the inside of your grill, it must be cold and turned off. Start with the flame tamers, which are the parts that cover the burners. Use a wire brush to scrape away any food particles, followed by a quick wipe down with a paper towel. To clean the burners, turn the grill on for 10 minutes and then turn it off and let it cool down slightly. Use a wire brush to clean the port area and remove any food particles with tongs or tweezers. Venture tubes require a damp paper towel for cleaning. If they are clogged, use a toothpick or paper clip to remove the blockage.

Cleaning the Outside of the Grill

Never use stainless steel cleaners or polishes on the outside of your grill because of the heat the grill produces. Instead, use hot, soapy water and a microfiber cloth. When wiping down the outside, always go with the grain to prevent any unwanted scratches. After wiping down the grill, be sure to rinse it thoroughly with warm water to remove any soap residue and remaining debris.
