Planning a wine tour in Austin? The Texas hill country is home to over 50 different wineries, so you’ll certainly find plenty to love and enjoy. However, if you have never taken part in a wine tour, you might need a few pointers to ensure that you’re as comfortable as possible, while also looking great at the same time.
Comfortable Shoes
First and perhaps most importantly, make sure that you have comfortable footwear. You’ll be visiting multiple wineries, and there will be plenty of walking. Plan for different walking surfaces, too – gravel, asphalt, concrete, and stone floors are just a few examples. That doesn’t mean you have to wear sneakers, but you might want to leave the ultra-high heels at home.
No Lipstick
You’ll be sampling multiple wines at each winery you visit, and that means leaving lots of lipstick behind. You’ll be reapplying it every five minutes. Our recommendation is to forgo the lipstick in favor of lip balm or something similar that can be refreshed without too much trouble. Your lips will also thank you for the extra protection.
No Perfume
Most of your sense of taste is actually smell, and perfume will immediately ruin your wine tasting experience. It can also affect those around you, so skip it.
A Small Bag
We recommend bringing a small bag that does not need to be held in your hand. You’ll need your hands free for wine glasses and any food that you choose to sample, but you also don’t want to leave your bag behind in the tour vehicle.
Water
A wine tour in Austin can leave you dehydrated, and while wine might quench your thirst, it won’t replenish lost fluids. We recommend bringing at least some water with you. Of course, most wineries will have water on hand, but having some to sip while on the road will be to your benefit.
A Storage Bag
You’ll find quite a few vintages that you fall in love with on your wine tour. Make sure you have a convenient way to carry multiple bottles home with you. Each winery will likely have paper bags, but we recommend a canvas tote for strength.
There you have it – a list of what you should (and shouldn’t) bring with you on your wine tour in Austin. We look forward to welcoming you to Bell Springs Winery!
