5 Immunization Tips for Travelers

Taking a trip abroad often means exposure to different cuisines, cultures, beliefs, and traditions. But that also means exposure to viruses and bacteria you may not have at home. That’s why getting the proper immunizations prior to your trip is a must. These shots minimize the risks of you getting seriously ill.

Before you get travel vaccinations near Parsippany NJ, though, here are a few tips you’ll want to keep in mind.

Timing is a factor

You’ll need to take many of these shots about six weeks before your travel dates. This can be a bit of a problem for last-minute holiday trips, though, so remember that before you finalize your travel plans.

You may need more than one dose

Some vaccines, like rabies, hepatitis A and B, require multiple doses which will require you to come in for at least three visits. Therefore, you’ll need to plan accordingly prior to your trip. Ask the doctor if it’s possible to rush the immunization schedule if you’re short on time.

Go to an urgent care clinic

After you book your trip, call Urgi-Med Urgent Care with the list of vaccines you need to make sure we have them in stock and ready for you. Our office is open 7 days a week, until 8pm Monday-Friday and all day on Sunday.

Make sure they’re recorded

Make sure the immunizations are recorded on an official certificate. The attending doctor should issue this to you. You’ll want to have this document handy when you go off on your trip.

Cover your bases

Make sure your shots are also up-to-date for tetanus, polio, influenza and childhood diseases like mumps, measles and rubella.

Once you’ve completed all your immunizations the most important thing is to enjoy your trip!
