Situations That Call for Additional Residential Thermostat Installations

by | Nov 3, 2015 | Heating and Air Conditioning

When family members are continuously doing battle about what temperature it should be in the house, adding zoning features for various rooms and having additional thermostat installations can help keep the peace. They may not feel entirely comfortable temperature-wise in the same room, but they at least can be in the same house without bickering about the air conditioning or the furnace.

With zoning and additional thermostat installations, central air conditioning can keep the living room at 74 degrees and one of the bedrooms at 78 degrees. That four-degree difference can feel very noticeable to people who prefer the extra coolness as well as to those who think 74 degrees is freezing. The household residents who feel cold may also feel ornery about the prospect of wearing a sweater, jeans and socks when the outside temperature is 90 degrees. It’s probably bad enough dealing with chilled air in the office since companies tend to keep offices cooler than many people find comfortable. This individual certainly doesn’t want to come home and feel cold there too.

Keeping just one room at a very cool temperature cuts utility bills too. The family might be able to leave several rooms with the thermostat set in the 80s if nobody will be spending time there. For instance, the bedrooms might be kept at that temperature until it’s close to bedtime when the thermostat temperatures can be lowered to a more comfortable level. Often, outside night time temperatures are low enough that the household residents can cool the rest of the house off with an exhaust fan that empties out the excessive warmth and brings in the more comfortable air.

A related situation would be a home office in which the person using the room likes to have a window open, even in the heat. Central air to this room could be shut off altogether.
A company such as Burgeson’s Heating & Air Conditioning can do the projects involving zoning as well as other HVAC maintenance, repair and installation work. Check out the website Burgesons.com for details. After zoning is completed, thermostat battles are over, and everybody can get along better.
