Checklist for Relocating to New Orleans

by | Dec 26, 2016 | Moving

When a new job takes you to a new location, there are lots of tasks to attend to. Relocating to New Orleans can be exciting, but can be stressful as well. Here are some things to do to get you started on your move to the Big Easy.

  1. Scope out the neighborhoods. New Orleans is a very diverse city. You’ll find a wide range of housing types, from tiny yet pricey cottages in the French Quarter, to subdivisions with room to roam outside the city. Tour the area and decide what part of town you want to call home first, to help you narrow your house hunt.
  2. Talk to a realtor. Once you’ve narrowed down where you want to live, start working with a realtor to help you find houses in your price range and preferred part of town.
  3. Plan your move. Start looking for movers well in advance of your move. Even if you don’t have all the details nailed down, it’s a good idea to get on the calendar so that you’re certain they can accommodate your move and so you can determine prices and timeframes.
  4. Have a yard sale. It’s never a good idea to move items you don’t need. Cleaning out now and having a yard sale or making a donation to charity will help you to get prepared for your move, ensure you don’t move items you won’t use, and can help you get a little cash, too.

Getting these four items checked off your “to do” list early will help you be prepared for relocating to New Orleans early. Once you’ve settled on a new home and pared down the items you’ll be moving, you can focus on enjoying your new life adventure without all the worry.
