How To Choose A Pallet Loader

No matter what it may be called from a pallet jack to a pallet pump, a pallet loader is an essential part of any type of storage or production facility. There are many different styles and options in this type of equipment. Choosing the right one for your needs will be a factor of several different components.

A pallet jack is used to move palleted items either indoors or outdoors. They can be relatively small to much larger with different features and functions. Some are designed to lift pallets only a minimal distance while others can be used to lift palleted materials to the top of industrial storage racks.

Manual or Powered

A manual pallet loader is a relatively low-cost piece of equipment. Its design also makes it very durable and something that is rarely going to need to be replaced with just basic maintenance and care.

They are very simple, operating with a handle that moves to turn the forks mounted on wheels to the front. The handle can also be pumped to create the lifting movement, similar to that of a jack for a car, using hydraulic pressure created by the pumping motion. This only lifts a small distance off the floor and cannot be used for stacked storage, loading or unloading.

Powered pallet jacks are much heavier with a larger overall frame, forks and often a platform area for the operator to stand on the equipment. It operates with a throttle and a joystick type of steer mechanism. Lifting and lowering of the pallet is faster and easier as there is no need for pumping to create the pressure for the lift.

Both types of pallet loader options can be used in the same facility. Often the manual pallet jacks are used on trucks for loading and unloading since they are smaller and easier to maneuver. Powered loaders are more commonly used in large warehouses or storage facilities for efficiency and speed.
