A Better Alternative In Dust Control Systems

by | Feb 13, 2017 | Home And Garden

Many types of industries produce large amounts of dust. This dust can occur because of processing, moving of materials, the movement of equipment or through a combination of different methods.

Controlling the dust and reducing the health and safety issues with dust in the environment and the workplace is essential. Regulations and requirements for dust control are in place to protect workers and to minimize any potential issues for safety. Dust may be combustible, hazardous or toxic depending on the particular type of materials present.

Dust control systems in the past have focused on soaking the material to eliminate dust or in collecting the dust. Both of these options have limitations and can easily result in other issues and increased costs.

Soaking Materials or Dust Collection

Using high volume amounts of water sprayed on materials will automatically eliminate dust. However, there are some drawbacks and very costly implication to this option.

Water runoff will need to be managed, resulting in the need for expensive drainage systems. In many industries, the water has to be treated to remove chemicals or toxins before being disposed of, further adding to costs. Dust collection using vacuums is possible in small spaces, but it cannot be used on an industrial scale. These systems are very costly to install and tend to have high maintenance requirements.

Misting Dust Control Systems

To avoid the limitations of vacuums or fans and to eliminate the concern with water runoff, dust control systems that use mist are an ideal option for both industrial applications within a building as well as outside.

The misting system mounts to the ceiling or the structure, producing an exceptionally fine mist. These micron-sized droplets of water attract and trap dust in the air, allowing it to settle back down to the ground where it remains.

These systems not only control dust, but they also can be used to minimize odors. Highly efficient, low maintenance and low cost to operate, these dust control systems can be used in small and large facilities to provide local or area wide dust control.
