Business Sign Definition
Business signs are intended to draw people to a retailer, entertainment venue or service.
Frontage Signs
The portion of a business that faces the street is frontage. If a business has an entrance facing a parking lot or open space that entrance is considered frontage. Commercial panels in Honolulu that extend over a public walkway must be mounted at least 8 feet above the walkway. There must be at last 2 feet between the outer edge of the sign and the outside edge of the walkway. Freestanding signs or signs on posts are prohibited under these rules. Directional Signs
Directional signs show the way to a business’ entrance or exit. A single directional sign per entrance or exit is allowed. The portion of a directional sign displaying a business name, address, and logo may not be greater than one square foot.
Ground Signs
Ground signs are either free-standing or mounted to a pole. A ground sign may be single or double-sided. A ground sign may not stand more than 16 feet above the ground.
