Are You Looking For Unique Wood Products In Pennsylvania?

Despite significant advances in ceramic, plastic and metal production methods, wood remains a material of choice for many daily items about the home, office or business premises. This is particularly true where pleasing appearance is required alongside usability functionality.

For example, a glass topped side table with stainless steel legs might look trendy in your living room but many people might prefer the more traditional appearance provided by a wooden accent table – especially if it has something “interesting” inlaid or carved into (or onto) its top surface. Whatever the decorative wooden item might be and for whatever purpose it might be used; its aesthetic appeal is increased if the decoration is somewhat unique.

Hand Crafting Or Modern Technology?

No matter what method the creator of a wooden accent item uses; high skill levels and imaginative design thinking are the keys to the more successful creations. In earlier times, this would be achieved by the craftsmen’s skill with knives, chisels and other sharp implements’ used by hand to carve away pieces of wood to create whatever was required. This tradition is kept alive by the likes of “folk” artists and wood sculptors.

Mechanisation came with the introduction of the first machine to spin a wooden workpiece so that cylindrical shapes could be turned from it – i.e. the first woodworking lathes. Machine improvements followed and, with the dawn of the industrial age many devices for cutting and shaping metal were also adapted for use with wood (and vice-versa). Eventually, a well-equipped woodworking shop would be equipped with mechanical/power saws, drills, lathes, mills, routers, etc. – all designed for the cutting, shaping and carving of wood.

Computerization

Mainly following the lead of the metals industries, woodworkers were quick to introduce numerical control (NC) for the automation of their machine tools whereby precise commands are encoded in a storage medium that replaces the need for an operator to tell the machine what to do by turning wheels or pulling levers, etc. When a computer is put in charge of the NC; the machine is said to be under computer numerical control or, CNC for short.

Such CNC machines utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) programs to get from the drawing board through to the finished product. These systems do offer mass production advantages, but they are also extremely useful for the production of prototypes and singular custom designs. With Cnc Custom Cutting in PA area, a good woodworking shop can produce just about any wooden custom accent piece that their customers might request.
