When people think about a company that provides auto glass, they think about a service that repairs or replaces broken windshields, rear windows or side windows on a vehicle. While this is certainly a mainstay for an auto glass facility, these services can also offer window related replacements for things such as a Car Window Regulator.
What is a Window Regulator
A window regulator is either a manual or automatic assembly that allows a window to move up and down. Whether a person cranks on a handle to roll down or roll up window or they have automatic windows, they are using the regulator. Often times, problems can crop up with the regulator. Many times, these units will either need to be repaired or replaced.
Manual Assemblies
For a manual regulator, troubleshooting and replacing the regulator is fairly straightforward. If the handle to move the window up and down is stiff or has broken loose from the regulator unit, either the handle will need to be replaced or the problem is a faulty regulator assembly that will need to be replaced.
Automatic Windows
For automatic windows, there are a few components that need to be looked at. If an automatic window opener isn’t working, the first thing to check is the fuses that regulate the power used by the system. Sometimes the fuse will simply need to be replaced in order to get the automatic window working again.
In other instances, it may be the motor that moves the regulator up and down. By tapping the switch for the automatic window and listening for any grinding or winding noises, this can rule out a problematic motor. If there is no noise, it is likely the regulator unit itself. If there is noise such as winding or grinding, it could simply mean that the motor needs to be replaced. If the switch is unresponsive, it could mean that the actual switch is faulty and needs to be changed out.
Whatever issue you’re having with a manual or automatic Car Window Regulator, taking the vehicle to an auto glass repair facility is a good idea. With their experience, they can typically diagnose the problem and get the car window working properly once again.
