Common Water Filter Issues and How to Fix Them

by | Nov 29, 2018 | Water Filters

Water filtration systems are wonderful, but they are not infallible. Here are some of the most common problems experienced by water filtration system owners – and how to address them.

Water Not Being Properly Cleaned

One of the most common problems faced by consumers using installed water filters is finding water less-than-sparkling when it comes from the filter spout. There are many potential causes for this. Some of these include:

  • Improper installation. If your filter is not installed correctly, proper filtration isn’t possible. Check your filter for correct installation before calling for help.
  • Outdated filter element. When is the last time your filter was changed? If you’re like many people, the answer is “too long ago.” Change that filter to see if your system’s problems disappear.
  • Damaged filter. In some cases, a filter can become damaged and stop working properly. Whether you’re seeing bits of the filter in your water or just getting less-than-clean results from filtration, a damaged filter needs to be replaced to get your system back to its original function.

Broken Water Filter Housing

If your water filter housing is broken, several problems can arise. A cracked or broken housing can allow bacteria to enter and set up house inside your filter, effectively rendering it useless. It can also allow for leaks that can damage other aspects of your refrigerator, sink housing, or wherever your filter is housed. One little crack can really create a lot of trouble!

Replacing a broken water filter housing right away is the best solution to all these problems. Most water filtration retailers sell all the accessories that you need for maintaining your filter, including replacement housing. Contact your local filtration retailer right away if you notice a crack or break in your filter housing to prevent damage or a drop in water quality.
