According to a new publication put out by a group of people who work on cyber security in Oregon, traditional SIP systems are going to get retired wholesale once teams get a chance to see what’s on the horizon. Fully encrypted lines are much safer, and those that boast end-to-end cryptography are going to be the most sought after. This means that people on either end of a connection wouldn’t be able to slice into the other side, dramatically limiting the ability of any bad actor to gain access to information that they shouldn’t be able to hear.
Portability might be equally important to many users. A softphone that uses something other than traditional SIP or ISDN technology wouldn’t have to get tied down to one geographical location. While the number assigned to it would still adhere to the rules of a specific area code, there’d be nothing stopping a creative user from bringing the system itself to anywhere they need it.
