So, you’ve decided that your hotel business needs a good old fashioned interior makeover. Maybe you took over from the last manager, or perhaps that tacky wallpaper finally got to you and you decided to finally get rid of it. Whatever your reason, you now need to hire a hotel interior designer. This is inherently different from normal interior designers because you’re redesigning the interior of an entire hotel. This is going to be an intricate, elaborate operation at best. So you want to make sure that the designer you hire is the right man/woman for the job. And the best way to do that is to have some very specific questions for the interview. Here are a few now.
#1. Can you work with the budget?
You should remember that the interior designer is as constrained by the budget as you are. So, make sure to have a detailed discussion with your interior designer about the budget of the job, and make sure that they can work well within the confides of the budget. Going overbudget means having to cut corners, which means having to trade the quality of the final product for the product being completed at all. Not an ideal situation for anyone.
#2. Are you professionally certified?
If this is your first time requisitioning the services of an interior designer, then it’s within your best interests to ask this simple, yes or no question. Now some states don’t require this, so if you don’t already know, you should look up if the state your hotel is based in, requires professional certification from interior designers. If it does, then it’s important to know that the designer you’re considering working with know what they’re doing, have a formal education on the subject, and have even earned a degree in the field.
#3. How long will the project take?
While this is all going on, some rooms may be closed off to guests and even employees. This can be potentially damaging to your business (so make sure the project doesn’t happen during vacation season) so be sure to get a good, accurate timeline from the designer in question. If you simply can’t adjust to the timeline, then you should move on to the next designer on your list.
Now that you have these questions ready, you probably need an interior design company to go visit in order to ask these questions. To that end, there’s no one better to hire for a job such as this, than Curve Hospitality.
