When you are looking for a new apartment, it is easy to get caught up in the sales pitch of a particular listing, especially for luxury rentals in Los Angeles and other large cities. These apartments almost always offer extra incentives to renters to entice them into renting a unit. There is nothing wrong with this; selling yourself is how you get business after all, but is it worth it to you as a renter?
Consider the Costs
Luxury apartments are likely to come with extra fees for certain amenities that are included. This is something to keep in mind. Often, poorly managed apartments will lower their rent and raise fees to make it seem like you are getting a better deal, so be sure to find out the total cost of living there before signing a lease.
On top of additional costs, when you are considering a luxury apartment in a large metro area the price can go up fast. You need to be sure you are going to be able to make the payments, but you also need to make sure it is going to be worth the extra money when compared to a cheaper apartment or house outside of the city.
Amenities
If you are paying for a luxury rental, then you expect to get something extra for your money. Yes, fresh paint and new floors look nice, but any apartment can offer these. Luxury apartments need to have something to justify their extra cost. In most cases this includes a pool and often a gym, but what else should you expect? A nice, luxury apartment should also come with a well-equipped kitchen. This is usually a weak point for cheap apartments that will reduce kitchen size to make the rest seem bigger. Occasionally you will also find apartments with fireplaces, but these are becoming a rarity because of increasing fire regulations.
When you are looking for a luxury apartment be sure you are getting what you paid for and are not getting nickel and dimed. You will also want to find out what they offer that lets them justify being called a luxury apartment. An agent who truly believes an apartment fits this criterion should have no problems answering your questions.
