The Leadership Role of a Senior Pastor

by | May 6, 2019 | Church

One of the most important elements of the faith is the people who serve as the leaders of their respective religious communities. Whatever your stance on individual religions or religion as a whole may be, the fact remains that the ideological leadership of men and women of faith has played a huge role in shaping world history. With such great power comes an immense weight of responsibility. The finest religious leaders have always been those whose leadership of their people and messages of compassion and inclusivity ennoble humanity towards its greatest aspirational heights.

Such a role was fulfilled by Rabbi Hillel in Judaism, Joan of Arc in Catholicism, Gandhi in Hinduism, and of course Martin Luther King in Protestantism. A great senior pastor, such as those at Wolhawaii.com, should follow in that tradition, providing their congregations with moral guidance.

Giving Guidance

The most important role of a senior pastor is, as stated, the ability to give moral guidance to their congregants. Religion is not merely a set of idle ideas or beliefs in supernatural phenomena. Rather, it is a moral and philosophical outlook on life, which requires close reading and reexamination throughout one’s life. This can be an arduous task, and so the heavy burden of advice-giving and guidance falls on the shoulders of a senior pastor. It is up to them to try to not just explain the text the best as they can, but to also do so in a way that brings out the better angels in their congregants.

Spurring Engagement

A critical aspect of the leadership of all of those aforementioned religious leaders was the fact that they spurred engagement among their followers. Gandhi and Dr. King spurred movements for liberation and peace. Joan of Arc led her people in defense of their country. Rabbi Hillel worked to preserve and crystalize the identity of his people in the wake of cultural persecution. The key to all these movements was active engagement – and a great senior pastor will follow that model as well.

Great pastors are leaders, and the best churches thus have the potential to lead their community toward causes of inclusivity, goodwill, and moral goodness in a world all too lacking on all those fronts. You can pay a visit to Facebook page for more information.
