Just like any other type of medical condition, there are a number of different treatments that are available for any couple struggling with infertility.
Infertility Symptoms
The primary symptom that is associated with infertility is the inability to conceive a baby after trying for a year. At this point, the majority of doctors will recommend that you seek fertility treatment. For women who are older than 35, who were unable to conceive after a period of six months, seeking the help of a fertility doctor right away is highly recommended. And, any women who are traying to conceive but are having irregular menstrual cycles should also consult a reproductive endocrinologist. Keep in mind, male factor infertility is the cause of roughly 1/3 of all fertility cases, which is why both people should be evaluated.
Surgery
Blocked or scarred fallopian tubes can prevent pregnancy in a number of women. This can be due to endometriosis, prior surgeries or even damage that has occurred due to infections in the pelvic region. In many cases, laparoscopic surgery will help to remove any scar tissue that is present, which may increase the chances of becoming pregnant.
Intrauterine Insemination – IUI
This option is used for treating a number of different types of infertility. With this technique, the sperm will be placed right into the uterus during ovulation, which will reduce the distance that the sperm have to travel to get to the egg. In many cases, IUI will be used along with drugs for the stimulation of ovulation. While the pregnancy rates are lower with this than IVF, it is less invasive and more affordable.
