Indications in Which to Acquire Furnace Repair

by | Jul 19, 2016 | Air Conditioning

The home’s thermostat relies on the furnace to keep the temperature at a reasonable level during the winter. This main control system directs the turning on and off of the system. If there is a fault somewhere in the system, the home will lose its heat. These are some of the indications that the furnace is not functioning properly.

One of the ways a furnace may falter is producing enough heat to maintain the desired temperature on the thermostat. Burnt out heating coils or a loss of air can cause the heating system to malfunction. An investigation into the cause of a lack of heat will need to be done before the Furnace Repair can occur. If the furnace feels hot even though no heat is coming from the vents, it should be turned off immediately.

Another indication of a problem is when the furnace continuously cycles on and off in an attempt to maintain temperature. Continuous cycling indicates that the furnace is not functioning efficiently. The constant cycling will shorten the life span of the furnace as well as increase the likelihood that it will have to be repaired shortly. Probable causes include a faulty thermostat or a major energy leak occurring somewhere in the ducting system.

Inadequate air flow is also a cause for concern. Air flow is necessary for the ferrying of hot air as well as cooling down the system. A reduction in air flow can be detected by holding up a hand to the vents while the furnace is on. There are several possible issues that can be causing this. The Furnace Repair can include changing out the filters, cleaning out the system or inspecting the ductwork for a breach in the system. Because the air flow is drastically reduced, the furnace does need to be shut down immediately.

While thermostats are designed to provide the input to the furnace, a lack of a proper response indicates an issue that needs to be addressed. A lack of heat, cycling on and off and a lack of air flow indicate that the furnace is in need of attention.
