Tire Sale? Check Out These Shopping Tips!

by | Aug 4, 2017 | Auto Repair

So, you’ve seen or heard an advertisement for an upcoming tire sale. Great! Most people, however, find themselves a little overwhelmed when they realize just how many options are out there for their vehicles. Here are some shopping tips to make sure that you make the most of the tire sale!

Know the Size You Need

Check the owner’s manual of your vehicle for the tire size best for your car. You can also find it on a sticker inside the driver’s side door, near the catch. Tire sizes will be printed on the sidewalls of the tires at the shop.

Check New Tires’ Dates of Manufacture

How old your tires are matters, even if they’re “brand new,” because tires deteriorate over time. Tire manufacture dates are an easy-to-decipher code. The string of letters and numbers begins with “DOT” and ends with four numerical digits. The first two represent the week of the year and the second two represent the year. So “4616” would indicate that the manufacturer made the tire in the 46th week of 2016.

Learn What Type of Tire You Need

Many shoppers simply stick with the reliability and flexibility of all-season tires. But when you’re at a tire sale, you may see great deals on high-performance tires, too. Are they a better choice?

It depends. When it comes to tire jargon, high performance refers specifically to how the tire performs at high speeds. It has nothing to do with durability.

Ask Questions

Talk to the staff at the shop about your specific needs. If you’re on the lookout for deals on good tires or you just have questions about what type of tires you should be buying, call Auto Customs. Their number is 808-545-1644. You can also find them online at our website. You can follow them on Twitter for latest news and update!
