Are You Ready for the Great American Eclipse?

by | Jun 27, 2017 | Eclipses

On the 21st of August 2017, millions of people will enjoy a rare treat known as the Great American Eclipse. Parts of the country get to experience a total eclipse of the sun, and many areas get a partial eclipse. If you want to see this great natural wonder, make sure to clear your schedule for that day. However, when you’d like to enhance your experience, consider these helpful tips.

Location is Very Important

Get a chart of the Great American Eclipse and check out your location in relation to the total eclipse viewing area. This area is about seventy miles in length from Oregon all the way to South Carolina. Some of the best cities for viewing are Portland, Memphis, and Atlanta. Decide where you want to be, and make sure to get there far ahead of time.

Be Ready for Heavy Traffic in Some Cities

About twelve million people can see the eclipse from their homes. However, more than twice that many people are within driving distance, so this could put a strain on many roadways. If possible, leave early for your destination and plan to stay late. This is one of the best strategies for avoiding problems like sitting in traffic for long periods of time.

Keep an Eye on the Weather

Check out long-term and short-term weather forecasts for the 21st. Some areas may experience cloudy skies or rain, and this could put a damper on your event. There’s not much you can do about the weather, but you can make alternative plans. For example, if you plan to visit Atlanta for the day, consider a museum or children’s indoor rock climbing. You may not get to see the Great American Eclipse, but you can still have a fun day when you plan for the unexpected.
