Five Back Pain Management Tips

Many assume their back pain could only be made worse by spending some time on their feet, but this is more often a solution than a problem. The stronger the muscles in your abdomen and lower back are, the easier it will be to support your back, and this will generally lead to reduced pain. Of course, if your back pain has been caused by a back injury, you’ll need to be careful about what movements you do. If you don’t currently exercise, try adding thirty minutes to an hour of walking each day. Be sure to exercise with the appropriate shoes to prevent other pains from cropping up.

Stop Sleeping on Your Stomach

If you sleep on your stomach, you should train yourself to sleep in a different position. It’s believed this is very unhealthy, and not only for your back. Even if you don’t sleep on your stomach, you may be able to relieve some back pain by modifying your sleeping position. It’s suggested that the best way to sleep is on your side with your knees and hips slightly bent. If you prefer to sleep on your back, try putting a pillow under your knees in order to raise them slightly. If you simply can’t sleep unless you’re on your stomach, try putting a pillow under your hips to raise them slightly, which will allow your back to curve slightly into a healthier position.

Lose Some Weight

While not everyone can afford to lose a bit of weight, many could be helped by doing this. If you are overweight, try to lose a bit by adding some exercise every day. There are many different opinions on how you can lose weight most quickly, but it may be best for your back to take a slow and steady approach. Adding a routine of walking every morning or evening will help you lose weight and keep it off.
