If they must go into the cooler and will not be exiting right away, they should close the door behind them. This will reduce the amount of energy lost and still enable them to get the items they need.

If you receive large deliveries that could leave your walk in cooler doors propped open for hours at a time, it is important to install strip curtains or strip doors to help keep some of the energy inside the cooler. Deliveries are obviously an important component of running a successful food service business, which means you have to find ways around keeping the cooler open for long periods of time.

Periodically, it is important to check the status of your door. Take a close look at the seal, gasket and hinges. If the seal is not solid, try cleaning the gaskets. If that does not work, you can replace them. You should also take a close look at the hinges to determine if they need to be tightened. If these simple tasks do not provide a tight seal, it might be time to replace your doors for more efficient ones.
